The Langa Station Southern Forecourt upgrade will see the construction of new pavements and improvement to the existing ones.

The aim is to ensure safe pedestrian movement.

Sandile Road going towards Langa Station area will also be changed from a two-way to a one-way road – including drop-off and collection points for buses, taxis and other vehicles.

The upgrade will provide for marked informal trading areas, new public seating, lighting and landscaping and a public parking area next to Brinton Street.

Mayoral committee member Councillor Johan van der Merwe said: “The creation of spaces for commuters to travel through safely to their destination is part of this administration’s aim to make all the people of Cape Town feel at home in their urban environment.

He added: “We need our communities to take ownership of these spaces.

“They should get involved to protect and actively help to promote these spaces.

“It is only through the support of residents that we can change the face of our communities by building quality, safe public spaces actively used by local neighbourhoods.”

Van der Merwe said the private sector and other partners are urged to join in the transformation of communities and thanked those doing so, as well as Langa residents, for their support.

Construction on the southern forecourt is expected to be complete by next July.
