Entrepreneurial incubator seeks applicants for on-campus accelerator programme

A Johannesburg business ‘incubation hub’ that aims to facilitate the development of new and young businesses is seeking applications from ‘green fingered entrepreneurs’ for its on campus business incubation and accelerator programme.

The incubator site has garden and office space available for 14 small businesses providing services relating to gardens or landscaping in the commercial or residential markets.

Applications are also welcome from those involved in small scale agriculture, garden furniture and décor and horticulturalists.

In keeping with the organisation’s vision of a South African economy that better reflects the country’s demographics, businesses must be:

  • Be 51% black-owned
  • Be viable and operate with a potential for growth
  • Have entrepreneurial characteristics
  • Satisfy the hub’s ratio of cost and risk to benefit
  • Be able to create economic opportunities for the surrounding area.

Jenny Retief, CEO of Riversands Incubation Hub said, “Riversands Incubation Hub is located in the fast-growing Fourways/Midrand corridor with high local potential for landscaping, horticulture and garden decor businesses. There’s definitely a pocket of high-income customers for businesses in the green space.”

“We believe the new commercial developments, luxury residential estates, as well as our support and world-class facilities, provide an excellent opportunity for green-fingered entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and achieve independently sustainable success.”

The 14 successful applicants will receive regular support for three years as well as quality office facilities at for affordable rent and access to an external growing and demonstration area.
